B.S. in
Nursing for R.N.'s
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Northern's
Nursing for R.N.'s Program is designed to meet the needs of the registered
nurse who wishes to complete a bachelor of science degree with a major
in nursing. The amount of time required for a registered nurse to fulfill
the requirements of the baccalaureate degree completion program varies
depending upon the amount of transfer credit. In addition, the School
of Nursing offers courses for the R.N. in cooperation with Rock Valley
College.
The bachelor's degree with a major in nursing prepares the professional
nurse for leadership roles in patient care in the total spectrum of health
care agencies and settings. Graduates are prepared to function in the
delivery of nursing care and assist in the improvement of health care
delivery systems. They are prepared to apply physical and social sciences
knowledge on the job and may enter graduate programs to further increase
their nursing competencies and skills. The application for admission,
accompanied by a photocopy of the applicant's current Illinois R.N. license
and transcripts from all schools attended since high school, must be sent
to the NIU Office of Admissions. R.N. students will be considered for
admission to the School of Nursing as soon as they are admitted to NIU.
The following includes a complete summary of the School of Nursing admission
