in Nursing for R.N.'s Program
Academic Requirements
Students must successfully complete 120 semester hours of credit to graduate.
Of these 120 hours, students in the B.S. in nursing for R.N.'s completion program
may transfer up to 66 semester hours of general education, prerequisite,
and elective theory credit from a community college.
The R.N.-B.S. in nursing completion program is designed to award credit
to registered nurses for their recent education and previous experiences
in the field. Thirty semester hours will be awarded for previous nursing
education. This credit will be held in “escrow” and posted
to the student's transcript upon successful completion of 12 semester
hours of nursing credit with a grade of C or better.Students must also
meet the following requirements.
A minimum of 24 to 25 semester hours of nursing course work is required.
Required nursing courses are as follows:
- Professional Nursing or Concepts, Issues, and Interpersonal Strategies
in Professional Nursing
- Research in Nursing
- Health Assessment
- Health Assessment Learning Laboratory
- Alterations in Biological Systems
- Processes for Nursing Leadership
- Clinical Development VI and Clinical Development VII or Clinical Development:
Leadership/ Management in Aggregate Focused Nursing Care
- Community Health Nursing
- Seminar in Professional Nursing
Additional semester hours to fulfill NIU degree requirements may be needed.
Students should consult with the School of Nursing adviser for academic
counseling.
